The AEIS Exam is necessary for foreign students in the Singapore education system. The purpose is to make sure that international students are ready to deal with the strict requirements of the Singapore education system and curriculum when enrolling in local schools.

Who Should Sit for the AEIS Test?
Non-Singapore residents and international students who are not in a mainstream school in Singapore can still gain admission to the country’s schools by taking the AEIS test. AEIS Exam Outcome
You will be notified if you can attend the mainstream secondary or primary levels in Singapore. School placements depend on the vacancies in the schools. Difference Between AEIS and S-AEIS Exams

S-AEIS stands for Supplementary Admissions Exercise for International Students. The S-AEIS exam has an equivalent testing system to the AEIS exam. The only difference is when the examination occurs.
When Does the S-AEIS Exam Take Place?
The S-AEIS occurs around February or March of every year. It is for international students who don’t have a chance in the local schools. It is also for those who were unable to pass the AEIS test in September or October.
Some parents also intentionally have their children take the S-AEIS so that they have longer to organize their children for the examination. The S-AEIS is additionally for international students seeking admission to primary two through four and secondary one through two in April or May of the tutorial year.
Either than the dates of the exam, most AEIS and S-AEIS rules are equivalent. Once you have taken either exam and been offered a faculty placement, you’ll not be ready to take it again to possibly change schools.
However, if your child has failed either exam, they’ll apply to require it again at an equivalent or higher level. Your child won’t be ready to take the exam at a lower level.

2. As a Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR), can your child as international student approach schools directly for admission?
No. From January 2016 onwards, all of the international students must take part in AEIS Exam before seeking admission to P2 to P5 or Sec1 to Sec3.
3. As a Dependant’s Pass holder, can your child approach schools directly for admission?
No. Participation in AEIS in compulsory as this will ensure that international students can cope well with the requirement of curriculum of mainstream schools in Singapore.
4. Can your child retake if he/she has failed the AEIS Exam?
Yes, your child may apply to take S-AEIS or AEIS at the same or higher level.
5. Can your child apply for the AEIS/S-AEIS again if he/she passed the AEIS/S-AEIS exam and offered a school place before?
No, your child will not be able to apply online again.
6. For AEIS registration, will there be enough places for all international students?
The places are limited, the AEIS registration will close once all available places are taken up on a first come, first served basis.
7. After passing the AEIS Exam, can you choose the school you wish your child to be posted to?
No, The offer of school place is subject to the available school vacancies. It also depends on your child’s performance in AEIS test.
8. Is the school admission guaranteed after receiving a school offer under AEIS/S-AEIS?
No, if your child does not hold a Dependant’s Pass (DP) or Immigration Exemption Order (IEO), he/she should obtain a Student’s Pass (STP) from ICA. The school offer does not guarantee the issuance of STP from ICA.
9. What if you suspect a marking error in AEIS exam and would like to appeal?
It is not possible as the result is final. The marking of AEIS follows an established code of practice to ensure no marking errors.
10. Can you appeal to change school if you think the school offer is not suitable?
No. The school offer is based on the available school vacancies and your child’s AEIS exam performance. Appeals will not be entertained but you can turn down the offer and consider other education options like private schools in Singapore.
