School Admission Exercise for Returning Singaporeans 2022
In 2022, the Ministry of Education will conduct school admission exercises for returning students and international students. Students from Singapore who are studying overseas can join our Junior and Secondary Schools, Millennia Institute, and Primary schools upon their return.
On the other hand, international students can also apply to our mainstream schools through the MOE after they pass the AEIS exam.
Assured School Placement (ASP) Service
For returning students from Singapore who are looking to enroll in secondary and primary schools, the ASP service provides them with admission to these establishments even before they return home. They should approach the Ministry of Education (MOE) early to make sure that they can start school with their peers.
Although the RS does not need to sit for a centralised test to secure a place in a school, a secondary or primary school can carry out school-based assessments and interviews to determine the individual’s current level of education.
These are designed to help the RS settle into the institution and support their education. For more information about the school placement service, please visit the MOE’s website.
Secondary Levels (SPERS-Sec) for 2023 Admissions
In addition to these, returning Singaporeans can also participate in the SPERS-Sec, which is a centralised exercise that takes place at the end of the year.
The SPERS tests will be conducted in one set. The MOE will then send the results to the appropriate schools based on their indicated choices and the available vacancies in the establishments. The 2022 SPERS-Sec will open for applications in July 2022. For returning students who are hoping to enroll in upper secondary schools, the exercise will be held in 2023.
The SPERS-Sec tests will be conducted in September 2022 and the RS will start school in January 2023. More information about the tests can be found on the MOE’s website. Returning students who are looking to enroll in Pre-University 1 in 2023 can also check out the details of the MI and Junior College admissions at the same website.
Supplementary Placement Exercise (SPE)
Students who are not able to attend the SPERS-Sec tests in time can take the tests under the SPE, which will be held from December 2022 to February 2023. The application for this exercise will be opened in October 2022.
Information about the SPE exercise can be found at the MOE’s website. Students who are planning on returning in September 2022 should apply for the SPERS-Sec instead of the SPE. This will allow them to start school in January 2023 instead of February 2023.
